GoogleDrive Perceives Major Price Plunge
Microsoft’s SkyDrive is officially called now –OneDrive! Though there are ample no of debates milling around net about data security and safety, I see cloud business becoming more stronger than ever. On technical front, I am an avid follower of this concept, and will drive IT enabled services on countless roots on coming years.
If you are familiar with Google Drive, DropBox or Apple’s iCloud, OneDrive offers pretty similar service and just from Microsoft family. It does bids range of apps to sync data right from your Desktop, Phone and tablet where it’s compatible with most famous OS like MS, iOS and Android driven devices. But you know, Google Drive Still offers 15GB free space where OneDrive comes only with 7GB free!. For Android devices, it deals extra 3GB free space, If you turn it on your camera upload feature to auto mode.
On new feature side, OneDrive louds real-time data collaboration, More free storage and also Better video streaming experience than the predecessor version. Like other cloud services, using One Drive you can easily manage your documents and files and also you can browse, share and email when needed. Just all under one roof. Interestingly, OneDrive offers a large thumbnails for pleasant photo view experience and also auto upload feature for easy photos and videos sync.
The real-time data collaboration appears quite cool when compare it’s previous version. Like, If the document gets modified by multiple people, now both ends can see the edits concurrently which was not available before. Also, While you playback videos, OneDrive detects your internet speed and allows to watch even with slow connections. This feature sounds great to me and it seems they encode data for high/low quality data bandwidth according to your net connection. Since newly added feature in MS cloud, Need to verify how it performs at real-time!
Before ending…Last month, Google Drive has slashed its monthly subscription fee for 100GB tier to $1.99 from $4.99 and also 1TB price amazingly slashed to $9.99 from whooping $49 for us market!. Hmmm…That’s really a huge shift! Google has announced this new price as soon as OneDrive has dropped its price for their new promotion. However, The price slash on both ends precisely confirms, how the market is challenging for major leads now. Rush!. No doubt that, Google already got outshined in cloud segment and I presume more niche concept sooner on Google’s cloud wallet to hold its customers very taut. Just stay tuned and watch for more updates.
Over to you. How do you feel about cloud storage service? Are they safe enough considering data security? Are you using cloud service for your business? Just share your thoughts.

Hi Manickam – good to have you back
Interesting post indeed
Honestly speaking, I am not using any cloud services for my blog or business, or perhaps I prefer the old usual way of emails and things as we usually use as one doesn’t have the time to explore and see how Google Drive and as you mentioned OneDrive works.
This sounds interesting, especially the feature about both ends being able to see the edits concurrently, so it makes sense for those who work together more in this case. I’d surely find a little time and check this out.
Thanks for sharing. Have a nice week ahead

Once you familiar with Google Cloud, you can do enough things for your blog and personal importantly while on the go or anywhere. The Google docs is one of the prime cloud service on this ground and holds tremendous features. Just have it a try and let me know for help.

Hi Manickam,
Glad to have you back mate 😉
Talking about online storage, data security is the first factor I’m looking for I’m not storing any content online except for what I share on social networks and content uploaded for blogging purposes.
I’ve been using Google Drive to share and collaborate with friends and clients, but delete all as soon as we done with ’em. Seem everyone is a fan of Google 😉
Anyway, I think cloud storage is a best resource to backup self-hosted blogs though. Isn’t it?
I have OneDrive installed in my smartphone, but couldn’t make use of it so far. Do you know if the uploads are encrypted on OneDrive? Lately I’ve installed Mega after reading its data security is higher and communications are encrypted while uploading too. Hence much safer. I’d love to know if OneDrive’s security is better than Mega
Enjoy your weekend over there, Manickam
Cheers…

Hi Mayra,
Happy to see you back
Yes. Been busy these days at official job and couldn’t concentrate on my blog.
It’s glad to hear that you access Google Drive widely. Absolutely I love it as well.
Yes. You are right. Technically Cloud has grownup very rapidly and for blogging and self-hosting it’s already serves great job.
Encryption is a good catch and question. The answer would be Yes and No. Because, MS does the browser level encryption to validate all your login and other stuffs. But not up to the data which you upload. My better choice would be, There are other apps for encryption and have encrypted your crucial files from your end…zip it and have it password protected. So the decryption key and password still with you and safe anytime. Even Microsoft suggest the same.
Please read more from below Microsoft page as well.
